Take Five

I am a 21-year-old female, and I run every day, give or Take Five miles. What food / nutrients do I need?
I’m not sure what my diet should be now that I run so much. I’ve heard of female runners getting an iron deficiency, but I’m sure there are other nutrients I will need as well.
I keep suggesting this to different people, but it’s a place I’ve lost weight on and learned to love the support – and it’s free. I don’t work for the sight, I just have gained a lot of knowledge through it. It’s livestrong.com It’s free and they let you put in your weight, height, etc and how much you want to lose a week (or maintain, or even gain) and your activity level, then they give you a calorie goal. It’s seriously awesome. You can also track your work outs..so if you jog, you’d track jogging for however long you jogged each day. Then, they tell you how many calories you’ve burned based on your age, sex, and weight, and subtract it from your plate.
But to answer your question: I’d focus on lean proteins..chicken breasts, eggs, fish, beans, lentils, etc. Brown rice/pasta has about 3x the vitamins and extra fiber, compared to white rice/pasta, so that would help endurance. Veggies, fruits (especially berries) are excellent. Cottage cheese also has protein. I wouldn’t worry about fat, as our brains need fat to develop properly. We also need fat for everything else in our body. Fat in food doesn’t make people fat..too many calories and other things do. Anyway, hope that helps! Email if you’d like more ideas
