Snake advice please – Royal Python

Hello, Real bopught to Python today, after much reflection and deliberation. The petstore was very useful and provided all he needed. However, I was given a mat of heat, nursery, wood chips, etc cave. Should I put the heat mat in the hole of cave hideout or in a different place in the nursery I am concerned that with the cave at the top of the heat mat the snake may be too hot. Thanks in advance. It is a pet born in captivity, do not forget, dogs were wild once. Although, having said that I do respect your point of view … a Moses nursery timber that you can not go underground, only in the tank, but I have the mat in a far corner.
