Why would you want to train with weights? You must ask this question before starting a Weight Training program. If you have a specific reason for the Weight training, or goals you want to perform then you will more than likely to choose the style of weight training to help you achieve those goals.

What are your goals with weightlifting?

If you are looking to gain power and strength then you should consider a powerlifting routine. Powerlifting comprises what it says – lifting weights to gain power. There are three main lifts in weightlifting – the Bench Press, squat and deadlift. A powerlifting routine will focus on training to improve these lifts. If you are looking to get a sculpted body with muscles marked then you want to carry out a fitness routine. Bodybuilding routines focus on developing the look of your individual muscles, toning and shaping them. These workouts building muscle will help you achieve muscle definition to show up better in their summer dresses to the beach!

So what is the difference between a routine powerlifting and bodybuilding routine?

Bodybuilders train with higher repetitions and greater number of sets by the body, while powerlifters use low reps and fewer sets per muscle group. For example, when working on the development of banking news build a power lifter may do some variation of the following: bench press, Incline Bench press, military press, Bent-Over-Rows and skull crushers. Series and repetitions might look like this – 4 to 6 groups of 4 to 6 repetitions of each exercise. You have to choose based on their weak areas and you need to develop to maximize your main lifts.

A bodybuilder will focus on more reps and more sets per body part. So stay with the example above the chest Muscle Building routine may seem to this: same drills as described above but the sets and reps to be in the range of 6 to 8 sets of 8 to 12 repetitions. In order to lift weights in series and repetitions more need to adjust the amount of weight you lift. If you want to tone, shape and define your muscles after this type of weight training is for you. You will gain strength when you perform a fitness routine, but not as quickly or as if powerlifting.

So where should you start?

If you are new to weightlifting then my advice would be to start training with a muscle building (ie, a routine of Body Building). I say this because this kind of routine use less weight. You will not be inclined to try to lift more than they are capable of lifting. You will be able to focus on learning how perform each exercise correctly, with good form. This will help prevent injuries and maximize your muscular development. When ready to increase your weight you will better able to handle the additional poundage with less risk of injury. The muscles do not normally at its maximum efficiency during the first 3 to 4 months of training. It takes 3 to 4 months of constant training for the muscles to contract to its full potential to benefit from each and every repetition you perform. So a more experienced lifter will benefit from a lift a weight lifter with no experience.
