Road Race
Everyone has heard of the Tour de France, one of the world's leading road races extreme (approximately 2,000 miles over 21 days). Although drivers are only in the chair for 4-6 hours a day, the speed they carry are incomprehensible to most cyclists – about 30 mph on flats (consistent); nearly 15 miles per hour on steep slopes, sometimes 60 + mph on descents in the Alps, and an incredible 40-45 km / h in the sprints!
There are other races, though – in particular, the Race Across America, which is arguably the toughest Road Race in the world. Brokers tour of the West Coast to the East Coast of the USA, following a prescribed route, up close. The drivers can make a solo career as competitors, like two people, a four-person or a team of eight people. The 8-team of the person are usually the "fun" teams, and usually ride to benefit a charity.
The riders just crossing the continent in 10-12 days later, in the chair long days (20-22 hours per day). Teams Duo takes about 7-9 days to complete. In duet, the alternative corridors to assemble and rest, each rider in the saddle 12 hours each day. The four people is by far the fastest, crossing the country in about 5 days. This category has to do with speed. Each pilot has turned short about an hour (with a 3-hour rest), and his turn is the time trial riding style that is much, much more faster than the rate of resistance held by a solo or duo pilots.
Given that the U.S. is about 3000 miles wide, the Race Across America is an incredible achievement, no matter the status of a rider participates in!
