In the early to mid-1960, Milton Bradley came out with some interesting games all sold under the label of the American Heritage games. These were all games based on war and at the time were very popular. Unfortunately, he fell into obscurity and are now some of the rarest games around if you can even find one. The collectors are getting a mint for some of these.
The series started in 1961 with the publication of the Civil War. This game was a very small set of Civil War battle. Each side had only 22 pieces consisting of 10 Infantry, 10th Calvary and 2 pieces of artillery. To do combat with an enemy piece that had to align its adjoining somehow either side to side or front of the piece. Furthermore, in order to defeat the piece that was that have superior battle force. Infantry and artillery had the largest force of 2 and Calvary had a force of only 1. You can combine parts in any way, but in order to attack with artillery fire that had to be a piece of Calvary of it. To remove a piece that jumped over him, except for artillery not jump. The game was won by eliminating all the pieces on the other side. However, his opponent might surrender if he felt there was no way for him to win.
The next game in the series was the 1962 edition Broadside. This was a game that is probably based off the old wars between Britain and Spain during the days of pirates, but there is not a real description of a timeline. There are also land-based cannons that can attack enemy ships get too close to land can be very dangerous. The game it is not too hard and honestly not all that interesting, but it contains some really cool miniatures that can be played and the board is very colorful. It is one of the best Milton Bradley's efforts.
In 1963 American Heritage series continued with dogfighting. This was a game of World War I aerial battle between U.S. Air Force and German. The game is a Very Light version of WW I aerial combat and not the players really serious. Each part is divided into 6 levels of 2 units of 3 planes each. You have to try to maneuver their aircraft around so you can get a clear image on an enemy aircraft without being shot yourself. For each plane down to get a card. These symbols are used to obtain the cards. The player with the most cards at the end of the game is the winner.
The final game of the series went to the beach. This game came out in 1965 and was an edition of the Second World War, the Marines landed on the beach in Japan. In this game, both players are Americans and the object is to become the first team to reach the Japanese headquarters. Japanese defense forces are obstacles for both players in this game. In this game Each player has 6 pieces composed of 2 Marines, 2 Infantry, 1 naval support ship and 1 landing strategic air support aircraft. If the move pieces of land directly on a piece of opponents, to send that piece back to the start. This is ultimately how you become the first to arrive at Japanese headquarters. This was probably the most interesting and exciting for all games of American Heritage.
