Question about drilling in Shotokan Karate (in competition / kumite)?

They hit in the face allowed? I mean really hit them with force behind the punch. Or do you have to be careful and try not to actually touch? Thanks! Any advice would be great too, heh! I got my first competition tomorrow. Thanks again.

Most contact karate tournaments to control the face. Hard contact is almost always permitted. The same with kicks to the head in most tournaments. Bottom line is for the judges. If you feel that someone is using excessive contact can be warning, or disqualify them. They will tell you the rules just before the competition begins. Best of luck!
