Kendo and Iaido question?
In terms of Kendo and Iaido Do you consider that each gear incomplete with the other. Do you think a person should also Kendo Iaido train to be considered a complete sword? And vice versa. If a person who trains also trains in Iaido in Kendo to complete their training? Do you think that art is more complete in its own right?
Hi If both arts are very incomplete. If a train on the person, whether in the arts to complete their training? That really depends on what the goals are individuals. If you are interested in the spiritual side of the sword art iaido is then all you need to know. Same is true for kendo if all that interested in sports combat. However, if you are wanting to have total dominion of the sword, then you really need to have an understanding of both. However, it doesn't stop there. There are other aspects of the sword to consider such as daisho sabaki, Dori muto and understanding of the various lengths of the sword and how they were used as Ken, Tachi, Kodachi and both. Not to mention how to incorporate all movement in his Taijutsu, like fighting with a sword and throwing a person using the sword, etc. It is common sense that you can not even begin to appriciate the practical application of a gun if you do not learn all the facets that must be done. The art of sword were dispersed for many reasons, Japan. Especially the art of being accepted in modern society, but also because the art itself in places has been lost due to their use are obsolete. The samurai were trained and covered all these things and more. Unfortunately today there are no more samurai or ninja, as well to train for the enjoyment and love of art. How much of what you want to study is purely down to personal tastes or interests. But training is no cutting, drawing, unfenced will never give the full picture. Training with a bokken or shinai is just that. You can never reproduce the feeling of balance or a real sword, but you to train this way for security reasons. It's learning all these things today still practice? Of course, it only depends on whether you can see its application beyond the lamina propria. Best wishes Idai
