We have a fall tradition that bridges the gap between summer and winter holidays. We have a pasta party, or even two times in September and October. Weather cools and can open the house and invite friends to make pasta from scratch. We started with lunch and planning of our ingredients dough and divide into groups to each flavor. Each individual partner or bring a salad or pasta to accompany the meat over.

If you've never had homemade pasta, you need to give it a try. The basic recipe is very simple, here's a quick list of the ingredients to make a pound of pasta made at home:

• 2 & 1 / 4 cups unbleached flour
· 3 large eggs
· Pinch of salt
· Water, oil, or milk (3 to 4 tablespoons)
• A chopped vegetables to give taste (optional)

We prefer to use oil because it keeps the mass extinction, and adds a good flavor, but some people like water. Also use spinach, broccoli, zucchini or other vegetables for flavor, but light is good too. This is where the party really starts because many people bring their own special plant to create any flavor they like. And we had some real strange ingredients, and anything goes.

We use a processor food, but you can mix this by hand. Use the plastic dough blade, if you have one, but the metal blade will work. Ingredients are combined dry in the container and a pulse to mix well. Beat the eggs three to combine the whites and yolks. Turn on food processor and slowly pour over the eggs and continue the process until the dough becomes a ball and working outside the edge of the cup.
This part only takes about 5 minutes. Now begins the kneading and continues until the dough is smooth and elastic. Be sure to dust the work surface with flour and work quickly if you use water instead of oil because it dries more fast. Depending on their ingredients and effort, this part can take 10 to 15 minutes.

We roll the dough into a ball again and cover with plastic wrap "rest" for about an hour at room temperature. In our games to go this time to make our sauces for each of the different flavors of pasta. Pesto is always a standard, but many flavors of fresh vegetables are popular, some cooked and some not.

We use crank pasta machines (which cost about $ 10 – $ 13), as they are quick and easy. Always be sure to run a little test of pasta dough through any new machine to clean any residue from the manufacture (each I bought one that has grease, oil, or metal filings). Either make or buy several pasta drying racks and the paste is need to hang dry for about 2-3 hours before cooking (some people do not dry very long, but we found that actually improve the flavor).

The first process with the pasta machine is to flatten the portions of mass approximately 1 / 16 inch thick, 4 inches wide and perhaps 12 inches long lengths (the length is the thickness and length of the string of dough will be). When pasta is dry, it begins to boil, and within about 30-40 minutes there is a variety of flavors of the pasta and sauces to try for dinner. Salen salads and meat dishes, and then everyone mixes and matches of your choice. Trust me when I say that will not go home hungry after one of these parties.

You may have these parties at any time of year, the spring would be good also, as many fresh vegetables would be available. We just started doing it in the fall and is a bit stuck. You can always find some very good recipes that come with food processor or pasta machine to try. Or just experiment on their own. A whole is fun and affordable way to a party at any time of year.
