Kung Fu Panda is a 2008 American film animated comedy. It was directed by John Stevenson and Mark Osborne and produced by Melissa Cobb and starring Jack Black as Po. The film was produced by DreamWorks Animation studio in Glendale, California and distributed by Paramount Pictures. The film stars the voices of Jack Black as the panda, Po, along with the voices of Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Ian McShane, Lucy Liu, Seth Rogen, David Cross, Randall Duk Kim, James Hong and Jackie Chan. Located in ancient China, the plot revolves around a clumsy panda who aspires to be a kung fu master. After a much feared warrior is prophesied to escape from prison, Po is announced to be the Dragon Warrior, to their amazement and surprise and the chagrin of the resident kung fu warriors.

Kung Fu Meets the Dragon $12.78 The titles on this record reflect Perry’s obsession with kung fu movies, replacing his earlier fascination with spaghetti westerns. Regardless of title and cover, this is a sterling example of the Upsetter’s art. The great Augustus Pablo adds his melodica to most of the proceedings. The effects are wonderful and reminiscent of Pablo’s contemporary work with legendary producer King Tubby. Pablo’s presence has a leavening effect on Perry’s usual brand of craziness, though the odd buzz and whistle still creep in. When Po literally crashes a ceremony involving martial-arts masters Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) and Oogway (Randall Duk Kim) and their pupils, the Furious Five–which includes Tigress (Angelina Jolie, in a surprisingly small part) and Crane (David Cross)–he ends up being selected by the latter elder as the revered Dragon Warrior. As the skeptical Shifu reluctantly trains the hapless Po, his former star pupil, Tai Lung (Ian McShane), escapes from a high-security prison, setting up a collision course between the bumbling bear and the powerful villain. One of the finest animated films released under the Dreamworks banner, KUNG FU PANDA deftly avoids many of the pitfalls of the genre (i.e. cheesy musical sequences), juggling action, heart, and humor in a highly entertaining way. While Black (in endearingly restrained mode), Hoffman, Kim, and McShane voice their characters with verve, the real stars of PANDA are directors Mark Osborne and John Stevenson and their animators, who lovingly depict ornate Chinese chambers and vast mountainous vistas, as well as blazing kung fu battles.
