Akron, Ohio, is a small city with a great story. Founded in 1825, near the Erie Canal and, with their city "twin" of Canton, became an important American Midwest manufacturing hub that continues to grow to this day. In fact, Akron is known as "The Rubber Capital of the World". Long before the invention of the automobile, BF Goodrich began the first rubber company in Akron in 1869. General Tire was founded later in 1915 with the emergence automotive industry, then the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company became America 's Tire manufacturer online, giving Akron a very important country on the map. Once the boom of heavy industry declined in the 1970s and '80s, the city redefined as a financial center for high technology, and research.

But Akron is also a city of many firsts, some respectable, some acquaintances. Sojourner Truth delivered his famous "I I am a woman? "freedom of expression in 1851 in Akron 's Women's Rights Convention in Ohio. In 1885, two brothers from Akron, Frank and Charles Menche, invented Burger in New York State Fair and later also found the ice cream cone. In 1920, the first meeting was held in Akron, Ohio, to form American Pro Football League. One of the first operations of organized crime was established in the Midwest, when Rosario Borgio, an Italian-American mobster came to Akron in the century 20. Bill Wilson founded Alcoholics Anonymous in Akron in 1935, in the first meetings took place.

Akron is also known as the City of invention. Other "first" Fun Facts: The first automobile tires manufactured in the U.S., the first balloon tire, first tire synthetic rubber and rubber first wound of a golf ball all from Akron, Ohio. The zeppelin first built in the U.S. was in Akron, which also had U.S. company first toy, the first car of the police patrol car, first U.S. space suits and trans first science museum active, the Hall of Fame National Inventors. Akron was the first long distance electric trains in the world, the first National League Champions Cup (Akron Professionals mighty 1920). The first pictures of large volume of breakfast cereal (Quaker Oats) were manufactured in Akron, as was the first artificial bait.

Given the competition first in the City Livability Award by the U.S. Conference of Mayors in 1999, in Akron is also a three-time All-America City and winner of a world-renowned center of polymer research and development. It is home to the soap box Derby World Championships, the NEC Invitational Golf Tournament and Stan Hywet Hall, one of the finest examples of Tudor Revival architecture in America. World's largest model train display is in the tank at Akron 's Quaker Square (former site of the Quaker Oats Co.)
