Karate Kata

The complete history of Karate is clear, many people argue about their true origins. It's safe to say that, however, that the beginning of the first was in Okinawa. Although some people consider Okinawa and Japan to be the same entity, during the time of the creation of Karate, the two were separate. Actually, it was much later after Karate had become popular in Okinawa, which became popular in Japan. It began as a Martial Arts form known as TI and was practiced widely by the real and influential people of Okinawa. Ti was not a whole art form however, each practiced in different area, took the influences of culture and the people there. Many Okinawans developed their own personal styles of Ti, adding or taking away moves and techniques (also called Kata according to their own tastes.

During this time, distinguished members of society Okinawa regularly visited China to learn different art forms and disciplines. As a result, integrated Okinawa a form of Chinese Kung-fu (this form was considered more open hand) and IT began taking the form of modern Karate as we know it today. Even in the past years, however, there is much division between the styles of karate-like roots of IT, which also had drawn very little between the styles.

In 1806, a man by the name of Tode Sakukawa began teaching one of these forms of struggle in a city known as Shuri. Having been one of the first to begin to teach a form of struggle has its roots in Okinawa, he named his style of Karate-no-Sakukawa modern and began to take shape. Tode Sakukawa efforts in the city of Shuri is actually the first written record of the Martial Art of karate.

Karate quickly led to the popularity, and many of the original students Tode Sakukawa began teaching their own styles suited to students of their own. Sokon Matsumara is considered the most outstanding student Sakukawa Tode, he and adapted his own style, incorporating techniques found in the IT and Shaolin art forms. Matsumara Sokon taught his style (which became known as Shorin Ryu and is still used today day) a man by the name of Anko Itosu. Anko Itosu is often called the grandfather of Karate and taught many prominent figures of today. He developed many skills for beginners and also developed his own style that led to Japan.

Karate was after he was taken to Japan that began to gain popularity extreme. With the help of men like Hinonori Ohtsuka and Funakoshi, Karate began taking a more modern form. Ohtsuka Hinonori technical mixture of various forms of martial arts, including aikido, judo, kendo, and jujutsu. This particular form martial art was a more fluid and energy and therefore took more fight and fight (this is called Kumite. This form is perhaps the closest to modern Karate as we know it today. Many people today still practice karate, but has come a long way since its original conception in Okinawa.
