Jiu Jitsu is a Rash Guard necessary?

I just started training in jiu jitsu, and while shopping for my gi I saw the selection of the guards eruption. I wonder if at the same time training in a rash guard gi is really necessary. A little help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Not essential, but some consider it a comfortable layer between your skin and the GI in the rough.
