History of Wado Karate
Master Hironori Ohtsuka in 1934 founded the traditional Japanese style called Wado-Ryu Karate Karate – which translates to "form of peace "or" way of harmony. "Master Ohtsuka believed that" violent actions can be understood as a form of Martial Arts, but the true meaning of martial arts is to seek and attain the path of peace and harmony ".

Considered a pioneer of martial arts because of their training dedicated and innovative ideas, Otsuka Sensei began his martial arts career in Shindo Yoshin Ryu Jujitsu, which were prepared under the personal direction of the founder of Shotokan Funakoshi – who sometimes is credited as the father of Karate.

After years of training and study, Ohtsuka Sensei decided to create his own style of Karate through the combination of the two arts and the creation of "Wado" – a fluid, the Martial Art, but powerful.

In 1938 Wado-Ryu was officially registered and subsequently recognized by the Martial Arts Federation of Japan as "traditional" Karate – 1 of 4 styles in Japan, which had been awarded this status.

What you will learn
Most schools are very traditional Wado Karate due to its roots and history. This is an ideal environment to learn because the student experience the true essence of Wado. However, some creative Wado-Ryu instructors have incorporated training and modern techniques teaching to accommodate a broad base of students.

Classes consist of basic elements of karate as punches, kicks, blocks and strikes – Including several positions to develop leg strength, develop coordination, and improve balance. Along with these basic techniques, students learn how to perfect their timing by performing exercises reaction and its combination with kicks and punches. This teaches the student to counter and / or evade an attacker.

Moreover, another point of attention in class is kata Wado Karate – detailed choreographed patterns combined positions with the basic techniques of Karate. For some professionals, this is considered as the foundation of Wado from Otsuka Sensei spent countless hours perfecting kata.

Once you become a Black Belt in Wado, students also learn Kihons – choreographed karate techniques, but done with a partner. The attacker has some blows, kicks and blows delivered, while the defender has to execute precise blocks, escapes, and counters. This is where really differentiates Wado from other styles because it uses the hips and body to evade the attackers, along with its energy and the fight against strikes, throws and / or locks.

First Day

Most likely you will be in a class that includes other beginners in the same age. Required Equipment
The only real equipment needed is a uniform (Gi and Obi and Belt). Everything else is just extra curricular that are considered a Karate school program Wado. Many schools teach free-style sparring controlled, thus requiring the purchase of protective equipment such as helmets, pads and toes, Chest Protector, the mouthpiece, and Groin Guard for boys. Other schools can also teach how to use a gun. Traditionally, Wado-Ryu does not have a gun in his art, and it's a way empty hand, however, the instructor may have learned elsewhere and decided to include this in their curriculum.

Expected costs
The cost of training in Wado-Ryu may vary, so there is no definitive answer. And, depending on the curricula of schools, as some studies may have purchases mandatory, as sparring equipment or training videos. I suggest you ask the instructor what are the necessary purchases to form in your school so you can budget accordingly.
