I can certainly relate to the distance they must travel to reach the desired training. I, for one, have always made a point that if I wanted something of value, I was willing to do whatever it takes to get that thing. In the early days of my training in the Martial Art of Ninjutsu, I had to travel long distances, especially during my time with the U.S. Army while in places like North Carolina and West Germany.
Many people find it hard to believe the closest I've found myself in school my teacher was … 9 HOURS! That was, of course, the driving one-way.
Now that I am Black Belt tenth grade, I do most of my training in Japan (which I am required to do once a year minimum). That means I have to …
… hours of travel 1 to 4 of an airport …
… flight (if non-stop) for 14 hours to Japan, then …
… travel by train for about 2 hours to get to where I stay …
… Before you can begin training.
And, where many of my students complain about spending hundreds of dollars in training – they spend thousands – Every time I go for training!
Many students potential contact me for training are only one or two hour journey from my academy. I have several other students that the unit, and beyond – some as far away as Canada – on a regular basis. One of these students made an average of once a week for private training and seminars with me. That's not devotion, and it is not fair (to have access to other teachers much closer to him). This is, however, a man who is faithful to his desire to get what they need to become the person who wants to be!
As I see it, you have three options (to get the solution "good enough" training school despite local) …
You can …
1) Continue to wait until "someday" …
2) Observe and attend events as camps, seminars, perhaps increased with videos, books, articles, and the like or decide that you at least, train at this level, or …
3) Do what you must live true to yourself and take control of the only life you have. If you really want the confidence, power and control that comes from the art and philosophy is out there …
… you must get the ball rolling. Nobody else can do for you.
The choice, as always, is yours.
