Warrior Set

Goal Setting – Lessons from childhood
I started playing ball at Rice one year before Larry. My last set of known size was 6'3 "245 pounds, Larry was included in 5'11" and 210 lbs. We were both fast and reckless on the field, talented, gifted, fundamentally sound and strong. One of us turned professional, the other one not.
When he was 4, my brother has a new Huffy for his birthday. I was still on an old bicycle with training wheels. Of course, I wanted to be in a new bike, as my brother. My parents lived paycheck to paycheck and not want to buy a new bike for 4-year-old did not even know how to ride. But I asked and was told anyway. In vain. However, the ray of hope in the "no" who continued to receive was when my dad told me "Son, when you can ride a bike without training wheels, I'll buy a new bike."
Last week while on vacation, I spent the day like most days relaxing by the pool in my garden. I have 4 children aged 12 (Austin) 10 (Hunter), 4 (Taylor), and 2 about to be 3 (Skylar). Now, Austin and Hunter are capable of swimming and staying out of any problem in the pool. Taylor recently learned and is very confident and capable in the water. We have to keep an eye on it just to make sure not to get in a jam. Skylar, on the other hand, is capable of swimming short distances, 10-15 feet. It feels more comfortable around the pool.
Fully week, I liked the challenge of older children to play under water, like sitting in the background, standing in their hands the longest, walking on their hands or simply that they can hold their breath the longest. Skylar often noticed hanging on the rim and dunking himself in the water, only to come quickly after catching his breath. My wife, Tracy, I said, 'Look, he's testing his limits. " I agreed with pride. As the day progressed, I realized I was letting go of the wall, but quickly took it like that to light.
Then on Thursday I was sitting in the hot tub enjoying the laughter and splashing with my wife, Tracy. No worry, I was to keep the eyes and Skylar as he continued his fall, the release of the wall, resurface and grab the wall. Thus, he continued. Suddenly, burst out in the water with enough energy to grab 100% of my attention. He smiled a lot and could not wait to catch their breath until the water ran down his face. As noted on his breath, smiling through the pool water running from his head, exclaimed, "Daddy! I play M'SELF FUND FOR ALL! "
Of course I congratulated him on his achievement think about How Far he has come recently with their confidence and ability in the water. continued. Then, I realized. This kid had a goal! I was excited because he had achieved a goal! I turned to Tracy and asked, "When to stop growing?" My wife is an extraordinary person as to know what you want and get it. She replied simply that he had not. He said, "No, adult human beings, why Why stop growing? "He let me think about that thought.
Over the next couple of days, I thought of the fact they do not really ever stop growing and learning. It's all about pain and pleasure no matter how young or old you are. Or the experience of pain enough to stop what 're doing or we experience pleasure enough to continue. Pain, however, can we stop taking risks. Trying the unknown can be painful, why should try that? A child does not have that option. He or she should keep trying the unknown! It is in their genetics or that will remain forever in that state. Why we, as adults, our growth trick not to try the unknown?
During the past week, I learned that my wife is superwoman. I have kids experience urinate, pooping, fighting, arguing, whining, falling, running around the house only to run into someone getting beaten or something, cut, have thirst, hunger, eat and be hungry and eat again before I could eat a meal. Also, my 2 year old boy has opened all the games in property Soward home (while I was sleeping) and scattered pieces in 2 rooms. And let me also mention that he personally opened a Smithsonian Institute Growth crystal chemistry of ownership of my 10 years of age and she had spread the powder through my study hall, and 2 bedrooms. Believe me, he experienced a little pain to remember to not do that again!
When I look back through the week and thought the completion Skylar in the pool and exploring the house, I get that this is simply the process that God wants. This is how we grow. Sometimes they are praised for trying something new. And there are times when we wounded. No matter what the day brings, we are always growing and learning. betweent The difference between champions and losers is that the champions of applying the lessons learned.
Several years ago, I was talking to my former teammate Larry UT-after a football game at Rice. Larry now plays for the New England Patriots and was out of that weekend. It has 3 Superbowl rings. He has been playing professional baseball since 1996. He was undrafted after finishing his college career. However, he was invited to attend the training camp for Jimmy Johnson, Miami Dolphins. This was the first year as coach Jimmy Johnson, the Dolphins and was well known for his rigorous practice. After the first pre-season game, coach Johnson, told reporters that only 2 people have made the team until now, "Dan Marino and Larry Izzo." You see, Larry was the kick-off return team, not known for its glamor, and destroyed an opponent running toward him at full speed. He got up and knocked down an opponent second. In the world of professional football and all his talent and athleticism, only the alcohol of a warrior and the heart of a champion could do this.
Larry reminded me in our conversation that "only if I had not gone in the doghouse (with former college coach) "I could have done. Knowing what I know now, I had the talent and the recklessness that had had to become, in less than a special teams star. It's bittersweet. Part of me wants him to have said that he had enough talent so that instead of blaming to the "Doghouse". You see, I got in the doghouse that "." At some point I gave my life to be what he calls a "hero fatally flawed. "However, nobody saw me as a hero. I drank and party at my career because I was afraid and lose a goal. I was no longer a child of 4 years he was told: "When you can ride a bike, I'll buy one," and learned to ride a bike without training wheels in less than a week. I was the man with the talent, people with heart wish I had talent. Several years ago, before Larry and I spoke I had realized this and changed my life. I took 12 years to get up and find another opponent to knock down. Occasionally, I remember a warrior's spirit and heart of a champion. This week was again year, a child of 2 years.
Like Larry, Skylar a goal down on Thursday by touching the bottom of the pool and on Sunday there was actually was sitting at the bottom of the pool while I looked through my eyes wide smile to me under the water because they had to demolish his opponent second.
We face adversity every day. That's the plan Diablo. God's plan is for us to stand up, show, Knock 'em down, and Knock' Em again. You have a goal that is to be the best in everything you do. In faith, family and work and be the best you can be. There are opponents in his way. Find out who or what is in his way and shot down one aa time. But first, knocking down the opponent in the mirror called Fear. Without one, the rest just run it for you. Stand and believe in the written words and repeated more than any other institution in the best-selling book written history, "fear not".
