The Tale of The Weight Loss Twins
The father of the popular Weight Loss Twins, George Germanakos, used to claim, “The only way to get something done is to get it started.” Just imagine how pleased and proud he would be if he had lived long enough to watch his twin sons, Bill and Jim, diet and exercise their way to victory on series 4 of the extremely popular NBC weight-loss show The Biggest Loser to become famous as The Weight Loss Twins. Surprisingly, it wasn’t always like that, though Jim Germanakos has always been a massive fan of the series. Jim’s a NY cop and a big family man. Up to 2 years ago, whenever his shifts permitted he would sit on the sofa in front of the television munching away on high-cal comfort snacks, soaked up by the exploits of the shrinking contestants, but not really concerned about his own 295lb ever expanding waistline. That was before his “ahaa” moment, before he was one of the weight loss twins.
The Weight Loss Twins weighed into the competition at 361lbs and 334lbs. Jim and Bill had been heavy guys since they were young. The Weight Loss Twin’s pop, George, had been a large man as well and had died of obesity related problems when they were children. Despite this, Jim was an active guy, a dedicated fire-fighter and cop who enjoyed taking part and play with his kids. He didn’t consider his own size was an enormous obstacle. His better half, Val, was a big lady as well. In common with lots of people, they loved to eat. As Jim remarks, when you reach 295lbs you come to terms with your obesity and keep on piling on the pounds..
Until your obesity begins to stand in the way of your folks’s happiness! It was when his sixteen year old son, an ardent eagle scout, finally got himself and his pa to take part on an exciting adventure trip, that Jim suddenly saw that his size could be a massive drawback. Whilst taking part in a rigorous training session, when the coach saw that Jim weighed more than 300lbs, he had to ban father and son from the trip. It turned out that the helicopters couldn’t evacuate anyone with a weight of over 250lbs. His son was so sad he cried on the way home. He loved Jim but he knew that his father had let him down. For Jim this was a wake-up call, his “Ahaa moment” and he decided to do something about it – as one of the weight loss twins.
So together, the Germanakos bros, the Weight Loss Twins, went on The Biggest Loser. During the first five weeks Jim managed to shed 54 lbs. The Jim was eliminated from the competition. During the next six months at home, thru dedication and doggedness, he shed another 133lbs. He could not have achieved it without the love and support from his better half, Val, who also shed 50lbs. The Weight Loss Twins went on to win the competition. Bill was the series winner and Jim scooped the “Winner of losers” prize.
Since then the Weight Loss Twins have told their stories on television shows including Larry King Live and Entertainment Tonight and have been given nation-wide love and approbation. They’ve quite rightly become stars in their own field. Notably they will shortly be achieving fame in the video-gaming arena when they are seen as characters in the hugely popular Nintendo Wii series. Most significantly in the time since they were winners in the show both the Weight Loss Twins have shown they are able to keep almost all of the wonderful weight reduction they achieved when they took part in The Biggest Loser.
