To promote and maintain good physical health and independence, the adults will benefit from the implementation of activities that maintain or increase muscle strength and endurance of at least two days each week. It is recommended that 8-10 exercises be performed on two or more days non-consecutive week using the major muscle groups. To maximize strength development, resistance (weight) should be used that allows 8-12 repetitions of each exercise leads to volitional fatigue. Muscle-strengthening activities include a progressive Weight Training program, exercises, weight bearing calisthenics, stair climbing, and similar resistance exercises using major muscle groups.

Participation in aerobic and muscle-strengthening physical activity above the recommended minimum amounts provides additional health benefits and results in higher levels of fitness. Many adults, including those wishing to improve their fitness or further reduce their risk of chronic diseases and premature mortality related to physical inactivity, should exceed the minimum recommended amount of physical activity. In addition, to promote and maintain bone health, adults will benefit from participation in extra weight-bearing activity and higher-impact activity such as climbing stairs or jogging, as tolerated. To help prevent unhealthy weight gain, some adults have to overcome minimum recommended amounts of physical activity to a point that is individually effective in achieving energy balance, while considering their food intake and other factors affecting body weight.

While any exercise is good for the body, some activities burn more calories than others. Support activities weight, such as running, aerobics or walking, burn more calories because your body requires gravity to work harder. When performing non-weight bearing exercises such as cycling or swimming, there is as much gravitational stress on the muscles, which means fewer calories than you expend.

If you start an Exercise Program, keep a daily food and activity to get an idea of a normal day for you. Sleep more or eat more things we do often without being aware that the exercise post.
