I recently had a sports injury in which I tore the anterior cruciate ligament. I have never felt much pain in my life. Every move that requires the use of my knee was unbearable. Apparently, the ACL is one of the most important structures in the knee, providing 86% of the tension of the joint restriction. The LCA has mechanoreceptors that are sensitive to all movements of the knee and are important in triggering the muscle reflex actions. This would explain why so painful in my entire leg pain not only of my knee. Apparently, a torn ACL is actually known as an ACL deficiency, affecting the timing of my knee contraction muscle. My body was trying to compensate for ACL deficiency by using other muscles, ie, my hamstrings. My hamstring contraction has long reflected, and now my knee has limited anterior tibial displacement. In other words, a torn ACL affects the entire leg and some damage can lead to very serious long-term.
I've been booked for surgery, but meanwhile I wanted to avoid fatigue, and stay a little fit. I referred to a physiotherapist by my surgeon. He suggested I wear a Knee Brace. I explained that one of the most important factors in sports medicine and rehabilitation management is the use of braces and supports to prevent injuries and further existing ones. Can be used in conjunction with a rehabilitation program that includes training strength, flexibility and activity modification. I'm not putting excessive weight on leg during exercise, and have begun to swim and walk on my own time, always have my support. It is the biggest investment I've ever done. I intend to be physically fit my entire life, and probably will have to continue to use my key so as not to hurt my ACL again. That's fine with me. What works, I say.
