It used to cost a fortune to get a book printed and published. Today, everything can be done online for less than $ 1,000 … and most which will go to the designer of the cover.
Instead of ordering 1,000 or 5,000 titles at a time, you can order 1 at a time using the print publication demand. So it's not a question of whether you can publish a book or not. It is a question whether you should.
Not everyone should publish a book.
If you have the dream of selling a million copies and getting rich through your book, keep dreaming. This can occur, but it's a million to one shot.
Books have the lowest margin of any product information. A CD costs $ 1 and $ 2 to duplicate and sells for $ 15 and above. A DVD costs U.S. $ 1.50 to $ 3 and sells for $ 20 or more. A multimedia course with manuals, CDs and DVDs can sell for $ 100 to $ 1,000 or more.
A book printed in a low cost $ 3 to $ 5 and sells for $ 20 or less in most cases. Can you make money from a book? Yes … but I would not be in a position where I had to do money from a book.
They are a product of entry and are a tool to generate publicity.
I would never recommend a book product information first one. Start with a CD, DVD, or even an eBook. If this succeeds, then consider a book.
Although not everyone should publish a book … each consultant, trainer and developer of information products, and professional speaker should!
Let's say we're both consultants and coaches, and we're talking a business owner. You sit on the plane with them and give them your card. When people ask me what I do, I give them my card and my book.
Which stands out as an expert in the field?
Now, say that the two radio stations and offer to contact an interview. You tell them how to coach people on success in business. I say the same thing and send them to my book. Which stands out as the expert in this case?
The author of the book does … Accept it. You can know more than the author now, but it is often perceived as the most knowledgeable expert, because he is put into a book. Does the radio announcer read the book? Not likely … There are some books very crappy that receives the most publicity.
That's enough to get me in trouble before.
If you want to be perceived as an expert in your field … creating a book. Not even have to write yourself. Gather the materials and hire a ghostwriter to create it if you wish.
Now Let's say you want your book to be a center benefits. Definitely, it may be that, but it requires the creation of large-scale advertising. If you do an interview at a major radio station, you can sell 300 books or more.
If you were published by a publisher, one could only get $ 1 per book. So the appearance was U.S. $ 300. Using the POD publishing, you can be an average of $ 10 a book … so you make $ 3,000. That's not bad for an hour interview. Get an important aspect of television … and you can sell tens of thousands of people.
You can also do book signings and other events to sell more books … but remember that all this requires you do something. If you want a fully automated business, books are not the work for you (although you might have a public relations agent making contacts for you). There are other products where this can be done much easier. The math simply does not work for paid advertising in most cases.
When I work with an author, I like to have additional products and services to sell on the backend. Sure … is good to make money selling your book. What else you? Do you have a game CD or a DVD showing their skills in more detail? Do you offer any advice or training in the backend? That's where the real money is in the author's books average.
