Is it true that the group doing exercises in a gym would make me less shy?
My mother thinks he would.
She is probably correct. Martial Arts or dance classes that may have the same effect, because most group activities allow you to see other people having fun and interaction (including "disciplined" activities can be fun, if you like to improve their skills and learn new things). The "environment" makes me want to be more "proactive" instead of hanging back. A theater group is much better for overcoming shyness, because many of the "games" are designed to make people more confidence. Even very "outgoing" people can suddenly become shy when they have to perform on stage before an audience, so for any type of performing arts that is important to be able to overcome this reaction.
